Meeting Synopses
General Meeting Council Meeting Summary
Regular bi-weekly meetings are held by the Students’ General Council where issues, reports and initiatives for the academic year are discussed and planned. Based on a brainstorming session during the General Council’s professional development day initiatives that will be put forward this year are the re-starting of the student newspaper formerly known as the “Voice”, regular monthly activities for students like the Halloween Spooktacular, finals make it take it, U-Pass, regular media updates, public speaking in class and the creation of a strategy team and regular events team.
The SA is always looking for volunteers and ideas for events and services for students. Some things take extra financing so the SA is looking for ways to help generate much needed revenue to be able to service students more effectively and create sustainability with current services.
The EXIT tobacco reduction program ended in late Fall since it was a grant obtained by the SA from Alberta Health Services. We know it was a great program that encouraged healthy life style choices and support for those students who wanted to reduce or quit their tobacco usage.
Another area of financial transparency within the BVCSA is the annual financial audit, which went well and is then presented to the Board of Governors for acceptance in compliance with the Post Secondary Learning Act.

Calgary Student Caucus
The CSC has meets monthly. Some issues that are on the fore front of post secondary students in the Calgary area are affordable housing, the U-Pass, and access to post secondary education. Currently the membership includes 5 public post secondary institutions in Calgary with Executives from each council sitting on the committee. Terms of reference have been drawn up giving each member an equal voice. A mixer for student leaders from each membership holder was organized and well attended. The BVCSA Executives represent BVCSA at the meetings so feel free to connect with them if you have questions or suggestions about possible issues that would be appropriate for the CSC’s mandate.
